KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has challenged LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd (LONGi) to figure out a way to produce energy via ‘floating solar’ in the state’s hydroelectric dams.

He pointed out that the state is producing power using turbines and the China-based corporation can work on setting up ‘floating solar’ on the water to store light.

According to Abang Johari, the ‘floating solar’ can store light and then convert it to energy.

“And then we will be producing hydro power through the turbines and the PV cells to produce energy,” he said when launching LONGi (Kuching) Sdn Bhd in the Samajaya High Tech Park here today.

Abang Johari believed that such proposed concept will be viable while playing a huge part on producing energy to the rural communities.

He added that the state’s economy will be transformed if the proposed initiative worked out well.

As such, he hoped the LONGi will take up the challenge to come up with ‘floating solar’ to produce and provide alternative energy to the state.

Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and LONGi chairman Zhong Baoshen.
